I'm so confused....Temp sending unit question??

I am in the process of installing and wiring the temp sending units. I have Autometer gauges and senders. I was reading the instructions (I know, WHY...LOL:LOL:) and one place says to use teflon tape on the threads and in another place it says not to use tape on the threads for a good ground?? NOW, which is it, to tape or not to tape??:eek::eek::eek::eek:

It's okay to use tape with mechanical gauges, but electric ones need the sending unit to have a good ground. Use a little bit of teflon paste instead of tape.

Oh, ok, I've been using mostly paste anyway, so I guess I'm good...who knew, I did something right by mistake**)**)**)**)**)**)

i do my best work by mistake.....its when i start to think is when i get in trouble.

All of my instruction specifically state to use a thread sealant. I use teflon paste.

I never rely on threads for an electrical connection. It will probably work for a while but one day it won't.I solder or screw a terminal to the sending fitting and ground the other end. Carefully drill a tap hole for a 2-56 screw in the sending unit going just deep enough for about 3 threads so you don't break into the inside of the unit and then tap with a bottoming tap (no end taper). I would first try to solder on a wire. TIX solder has a very low melting point-wash off the flux when done.

If you are nervous about doing this I might add the wire for a reasonable fee. Mine has worked for 10 years.
