stroker oil pump pickup
I am getting closer to the completion of my 408w build. I went to install my oil pump and realized I only had .014" clearence between the oil pump housing and the crank counterweight. No biggie, I just broke out the dremmel and ground the pump housing until I got .050". I think that should be enough. When I checked my pan clearence I found that the pickup is touching the pan.The pickup is not stock so I figured I might have to cut and reweld it. Again,no biggie.Does anyone know how far from the bottom of the pan it should be? Thanks Richie

My understanding is that the pickup should be no less than 0.250 at any point from the bottom of the pan, and ideally at a slight angle to the facing pan metal. (E.g., the clearance should taper from about 0.50 to 0.250.) If it's perfectly plane to the pan surface, about 0.375 is minimum.
Different setups have different requirements. Your pan should be baffled or gated to keep the pickup deep in oil in any case.
