347?

I have a 302 with AFR 185 heads, Edelbrock air gap intake and carb, Scorpion roller rockers, Not sure what cam is in it all I know is that it is a Crane. The engine came with an unstarted kit that I bought. I was told that it is a 70k shortblock from a 92. I would like to tear it down and freshen it up before I install the powertrain. I am on a limited budget and will need permission for funds that aren't necessary (I think anything having to do with my ffr is necessary). I would like to take it to a 347 and see rotating assembleys on Summits site for less than $900. Seems awfully cheap to me. Does anyone have any experience with these? Will they hold up or are they explosions waiting to happen?

You get what you pay for. I don't know who makes Summit's stuff, but it would probably be ok for a low horsepower application.

I can get you a Scat/Keith Black rotating assembly for around the same price.

want to save yourself a lot of headaches? call kc and get yourself a good shortblock.

All of these kits use cranks and rods from the same sources....so the only difference is the pistons.

Make sure the piston is sufficient to the task you intend and you will be fine.

I bought an Eagle forged kit ( 354, which is a 347 with .070" more stroke) a couple of years ago. I built the short block and installed a pair of the cheap heads. I took my Cobra to a dyno shop in Memphis, Tenn for test and tuning. It made 323 rwhp. A year later I called Keith Craft and told him what I had and what I wanted. "A street motor that would not embarrass me at the red light". I bought a pair of his Brodix heads and a custom KC Comp cam. Took it back to Memphis and dyno'ed 402 rwhp and 416 tq. Best money I have ever spend.
Lots of low end torque, great for driving on the street, any gear is a passing gear.
My advice is to call Keith, tell him what you want and how you are going to use the car. You can buy from him because his prices are very fair, cam was $50 cheaper from him. His products and service are the best!

Oh yea, I'm running Ford fuel injection. With a 20% drivetrain loss, my motor is making about 500 at the flywheel. Not bad for a motor that I drive to Ohio and back.

See ya on the Main Street of London in June.

The kit from Summit is a Scat

Add a decent HYd roller and a set os AFT 185 heads ans Bob's your uncle...450 FWHP with a flat top.

It quit being magic 15 years ago.

Good ole Bob. He always was a good uncle.

For what it's worth, I just used a Scat complete rotating assembly and did a 347 for a local drag racer....running 185cc AFR's, and a very mild Comp solid roller cam. Even with him reusing a 650 Demon carb, it made 490hp.

Like Mr. O'Neal says, a hydraulic roller would make for a very streetable, sweetheart of an engine.
