cam oiling restrictor hole size from main bearing saddle
fms and other brands available in kit form to restrict the cam bearings using the insert screwed into the main saddle, anybody know the size hole used?
anybody every restrict the the front 1/2" oil hole to the front main? this is a production block btw. |
In the very first Motorsport catalog from Ford back around '89, Ernie Elliott did a complete buildup of brother Bill's 358 Cup engine. In it were the restrictor sizes and several other tips.
In one of the books was also the buildup of a 310 Trans Am engine. |

Basically the hole thru the pushrod is of a smaller diameter allowing less oil to the rocker arms.very helpful when using a high volume oil pump....... Even with the restricted pushrods, when priming the engine with the valve covers off, there is plenty of oil going to the top end....... David |
The oil restrictor hole is normally 0.060"
You should only use the restrictors if you have solid lifters......but you knew that!!☺ John |

i am going to leave the oil feed to the lifter galley alone and contemplating a hardline off the rear branch to each galley halfway down the block. i had a fps engine they had done this to for hyd lifters and kind of like the idea. did a www search and there are a few other oiling system mods people are using, good info out there if a person can sift through it all. |
in addition to the above to whom it may concern, the production 351 #1 main bearing cam feed hole off the main saddle can be plugged, it is fed off the pressure inlet at the side of the block. the 1/2" main feed to the bearing can also be restricted, i chose to use the same size hole as the rest of the mains. from what i've read a lot of oil pressure can be lost on the #1 main.
i will open the main bearings at the oiling hole to the same as the oil feed hole with the correct bit size, and use 3/4 groove bearings, i believe z130m speed pro are preferred. still undecided on the top end. |
