dipstick installation tips
Morning alll
I have put a new timing cover and seal on my Windsor block. I need to install the dipstick housing but its not like it will just press in. It is a Ford racing chrome housing. The previous timing cover I had to drill out a bit to get it in but I think that was the wrong thing to do as it may have been part of one of my leaks. Are there any tips to installing this housing in the tight hole that is in the cover. Should I get a different dipstick to install? Maybe something a bit more machined and with no chrome? I always seem to have issues with items with chrome.. lol |
Temperature changes are your friend. Put the dipstick in the freezer for about an hour or so. Put a tube of silicone selanat in there, too.
When it's good and cold, heat the front cover around the hole with a torch, spread the heat around but get it pretty warm. Take the tube and silicone out of the freezer, and put a little bit of sealant. Don't touch the tube with you hands, it will warm up too much. Assemble quickly, and it should go right together. |
Worked like a charm. Thanks so much
