Procomp Cylinder Heads
has anyone used these procomp 210 heads on a windsor, many on ebay @ resonable prices. seems that they will improve performance over my current w/smaller valves & 180 intake runners.

They're cheap for a reason.
I used a set on a 383 SBC that the customer brought me to use. The valve cover holes were drilled off place and they didn't flow any more than a factory head. My advice is that if you're insistent on using them, buy them bare and then have a competent machine shop go through them, make sure everything is kosher, then assemble them with quality parts. However, by the time you go through all of that, you could probably snag a good set of heads for the same price or a few dollars more. The Procomp brand is basically just cheap Chinese knockoffs. Their distributors fail on the dyno, their rocker arms seize up and spit bearings out, their intakes have leaks, etc, etc. |

ProComp stuff is complete JUNK. I had a set of roller rockers that lasted 100 miles. I wouldn't use their stuff if it was free.

I've been running procomp 460 heads on my 64 Tbolt, for 2 years now and have had no problems with them so far. The car has plenty of power. They are fine as long as you buy them bare, have them cleaned up and put name brand valves and springs on them. There are alot opinions given with this brand. Talk to the guys who actually run them. One of the Mustang magazines did a comparison with procomp 190 heads. One pair were stock and one were cnc. The stock put out 468 Hp and the cnc versions put out 505 Hp. The engine was a 408 stroker. Jegs sell them also.

Where an item is made is part of the story. How much emphasis is placed on accurate machine work and casting quality is another. This seems to be where Procomp is all about making a product to a pricepoint, at the expense of quality...

I bought mine from an Ebay store in Arizona. He told me they were made in Australia and he finished them. I ran them for a year before I replace them. I install push rod that were to short and they wore the valve guides out. The machine shop (they specialize in aluminum heads) could not find replacement valve guides. He ordered three different valve guides but they would not fit. So I sold the heads for $200 and bought Keith Craft Brodix heads. I made 80 rwhp more but I also replaced the intake and TB.
After saving a few buck up front my advice is to buy a set of heads build the way you want from a reputable shop like Keith Craft. Dwight |
I bought Edelbrock heads because I trusted their metalurgy and casting techniques period. To me this was more inportant than the final HP number, and I knew I would have them for a long time to come (going on 7 years). For me this was a large investment that I did not want to regret.

I built an engine for a guy that wanted these heads as well. My machinist Stanley Morton spent quite a bit of time reworking the heads to achieve the proper flow etc. Edelbrock or AFR would have been cheaper in the long run. B ut, we made a ton of HP for a 392 Stroker. I guess you can make anything work if you throw enough money at it.
