RPM Air Gap Intake is Great!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Back ground info......I have a FFR MKI. When I bought the kit I heard that the victor Jr intake was the way to go since these cars are so light weight and the victor jr takes TQ away from the low rpm range so the tires could hook up.

FAST Forward......Today I put on a rmp air gap. What a difference. When I hit the gas I have a slight hesitation but then it comes on like a squirrel on fire.

351w engine
12" wide rubber on the back
TKO tranny with 3:55 rear gears

I will tune the 650 carb and see what happens on Tuesday.

Congratulations. Yes, they are a good choice for drivability. The one I bought 8 years ago is on its third motor. Dual plane intakes are for drivers, single plane are for dyno junkies.

i switched out a vic jr on a 351 crate engine for the rpm air gap, much better. you know with the dual plane you can usually use a larger carb vs. the single plane.

I like the response my little 650 Edlebrock gives me.

I might upgrade it in the future but I really like the streetability of my car right now.

What is neat about the air gap is the huge power band. Most dual planes start at 1500 and stop around 5000-5500 RPM. Single planes start a bout 2500 to maybe 7000 or higher. The Air Gap is 1500 to 6500. Great for just about al types of driving.

I really like the idea of the Air-Gap! My problem is that I am running a Performer intake and already I have clearance issues....as you can see from the photo below, the top of my K&N X-Stream filter is within 1/4" if the underside of the scoop already.

I have heard that Mustang convertible motor mounts lower the engine by 3/4", and if I have a bit milled from the carb pad, that might well extend the clearance gain to 1 1/4".

That might be enough, considering I am not willing to go with a shorter K&N (at least, not yet).

I thought about that, but there is a size limitation on the diameter of a drop-base air cleaner. It must be of adequate diameter to allow the fuel bowls on a Holley to fit within the "drop" area and still allow area for the filter to seat against the base and the top....and that diameter seems to be at least 14". NY,

Like Vector 1 stated, a larger carb will work with the AirGap.

I have an AirGap on my 351W with .030 over and I tried a 660 Holley Street Avenger and it had a bad hestitation starting out.

I looked at the Edelbrock spec sheet for the AirGap and it recommended a 750 cfm carb for a 351W.

I put on a 770 Holley Ultra Street Avenger and it really made a difference. No hesitation at all.

I have one on my 418. Thought about the Victor, it would not fit anyway, but after reading a number of comparisons the average HP was noticeably better with the Air Gap. I think the Victor only did marginally better over 5,000 RPM or so, and was behind at all levels until then.

I have an Vic jr Performer RPM AirGap running a Holly 770 352W it has had no problems. orig had a 650 but it was a little grumpy out of the hole and I ran out of top end at 125. The 770 fixed that for the street and very pleased with performance.

Right at 1". I have swapped these before (was running a 1" spacer on the Performer) and overall clearances were identical before/after.

95% of the people on this forum would do well to listen to this thread and go with a dual plane manifold. It amazes me how many people insist on a single plane because they think it is the hot ticket. Only the drag racers will really benefit from a single plane. Nice thread!

I'll upgrade the engine next. I'll have to decide between cam, headers or save up for both. When I do that I'll change over the carb to something better. For now the 650 Edelbrock does what I want it to do. It starts fine and runs great.

You are so right. Most people look only at peak horsepower numbers. The victor jr makes better peak HP but only if you rev the heck out of the engine. The dual plane intake wins everywhere else. Single planes have their place but it's very limited.

Years ago I was looking over posts and the guys at the time were going with single planes because they wanted to take TQ away from their take off so that they could hook up their rear tires.

Now that I have had both on my car I can honestly say that the dual plane suits me better.

RPM Air Gap with Mass Flow EFI
 
Has anyone used the Air Gap manifold with Mass Flow injection and would this make a difference compared to using the Mass Flow EFI with other (dual plane) manifolds?
