Carburetor suggestions

351W block, street cam: Holley or Edelbrock? I've heard good and bad things about each. Any suggestions about your own experience?

blykins 06-08-2011 02:49 AM

Quick Fuel Hot Rod series would be perfect for this engine. 650cfm, electric choke, etc. I have them custom build my carbs for me....if you're interested, let me know and I'll get you some pricing.

The Quick Fuels are based on the Holley but are a lot higher quality, have a lot more tunability, etc. I use them in all of my engines, street or race.

Another vote for Quick Fuel, I have one on a 355, great carbs, won't ever use another Holley.

An Edelbrock could be more economical that a QFT DP or Holley DP.

Another vote for Quick Fuel!! It took a little while to get but well worth the wait. I planning to put one on my Cobra soon. The 67 Shelby I put them on runs like a raped ape! Again, kinda pricey but the adjust ability and performance are second to none! Regards, Matt

QF from Brent. Give him the engine specs, bolt on carb, make the usual adjustments and go.

Log another vote for Quick Fuel on KC 408.

GoMangoMan 06-08-2011 09:49 AM

Wow ... it's unanimous. Thanks as I will look into Quick fuel. 650 CFM, electric choke sounds about right. Anyplace special to price/availability?

blykins 06-08-2011 09:53 AM

I can ship right to your door....

blykins 06-08-2011 10:01 AM

BTW, custom built Hot Rod series carburetor, 650cfm, choke, mechanical secondaries. $450 including shipping to you. New carb is ordered from Q/F, disassembled, then reassembled with correct configuration for your engine.

Voyager 06-08-2011 10:03 AM

beating dead horse...KC out a QF on my 408.

Is there a polished version?

blykins 06-09-2011 10:34 AM

They have a tumble polished finish, but probably not what you're thinking of. Air cleaner covers it anyway. ;)

I've seen QF and know guys that love them. They seem like a very good carb. I went with PRO-Systems, Patrick James will build you one for your particular engine with a good price to boot. You can call him for any tech service also. I went from a BG 650VS to a 780MS. Like night and day. Car idled clean and came in crisp and quick.

Again - Quick Fuel. Bullet Proof. Looks great too.

SwiftDB4 06-10-2011 10:17 AM

I'm pleased with QF also. Ditched the Holley Street Avenger on my Roush 427SR and replaced it with a QF SS750 mechanical. Great adjustability with removable jets and air bleeds. Easy to dial in if you have an A/F meter.

Sledge 06-10-2011 04:47 PM

A second vote for Pro Systems--works great; Patrick will answer your questions and responds well to e-mails.

AL427SBF 06-10-2011 07:21 PM

Willy's 650HP would be my recommendation, adjustable jets.

Guess who this is?When we spoke on the phone I forgot about QF carbs.Go with what BLYKINS said.He helped me with my trans problems and was always there when I needed him.See ya buddy.

Rickd 06-12-2011 06:23 AM

I have a quick fuel tech carb on my Keith Craft built 331 stroker. Had the motor chassis dyno tuned by Mustang Specialties in Pompano Beach, FL. Their head tuner - EXCLUSIVELY uses Pro Systems carbs. "We use ONLY the best" was his comment. He tweaked my QF and said - "it's OK - should run all right". But if I were starting from scratch, I would SERIOUSLY look at Pro Systems because John at Mustang Specialties works on virtually only Ford motors (mostly) and knows his stuff.

A third vote for Pro Systems. Once you own one, Patrick is your "guy" for any issues or questions. He treats each of his carbs like they are one of his kids. Very good at responding as stated above.
