402w dyno results
almost 565 hp with 530 ft lbs of torque.. under 6000 rpms.

Those are stout numbers. Can you share your cam type/specs and what cylinder heads you are using (with or without mods)? Compression ratio?

flywheel. 9 pulls. last pull was with a 1'' spacer and a 950 AED HP carb. HR cam 240-248-624-600-110. vic jr. AFR 205 heads. very pleased. should be a neat street car...

thinking of getting it up to 600 hp while the motor is still out... am i crazy to do this? im so close. what will it take? street car.. cam?, heads?.. thanks. 402w. AFR205s, HR cam.

Head work, intake work, and a bigger cam....most likely a change to a solid roller, which would necessitate a lifter and valve spring change. You'll have to spin it up quite a bit higher than 6000 now.

bought a sportsman block back in the late 90s. A351. ill never see the high side of 3500 rpms around where i live. ill just builkd it to be fast from idle to the next stop light. gears. converter, drag radials, etc... 600 does sounds better! 565 isnt to bad.. torque is what i want. 530 ft lbs...

If torque is what you want, then you need to go the opposite direction with the horsepower.
They're almost inversely related....if you go wild on horsepower, torque goes down and peak torque rpm goes up. If you go conservative on the horsepower, more than likely (depending on the cam), you'll end up with more torque and a flatter curve.
Build the engine for what its purpose is...if you spend the majority of the time cruising at low rpms, then build the engine for that purpose.

Stout numbers you have there.
To get another 35+ hp, the compression could be upped a little to say 10.8:1 and possibly a larger cam.
I'd try a head skim to up the compression, match port the intakes after the intake gets skimmed, advance curve, and carb jetting.
