Bolting on a different head
 
I want to put a different head on my engine, just an easy swap. I currently have World Products roush 200s [windsor sr.]. My cam is a compCam xe284H. Can I bolt on victor Jr.s with the 2.05 in valve , or the 18* KC Brodix signature heads without having a valve to piston issue?
I also have 10.5:1 compression with 64cc and a 58 to 60 cc chamber would be a nice increase. I have cylinder pressures in the low 160s.
Any advice would be appreciated

The World Products heads ARE a good head. The main issue I see is the dramatic increase in compression given the type of fuel available at the pump. I believe the .030 intake diameter increase is negligable, if you are moving from Iron to Aluminum the weight savings are certainly a benefit.
The only true way to be sure of the piston/valve interfearance is to "clay " it or install the heads with some light springs and a degree wheel and manually depress the valves while at overlap. Easier said than done.

Rick,thanks for your reply. My thinking is that my CR would increase about 1/2 point with the aluminum dissipating the heat quicker and that fact that my cam bleeds off some cylinder pressure this should be OK.
And yes, the weight off the front. From my understanding I should pick up about 40HP from standard Windsor Sr heads, am I thinking correctly?

Yes and probably more if you get AFR 205's. Not certain about the other two you mentioned.

For an engine with your displacement, I would look at the AFR heads. An AFR 185 would work wonders for that engine. The Vic Jr's are actually 210cc heads and you may notice a little sluggishness down low with those. If you can keep air flow up while decrease port volume, you'll be way ahead of the game.

You should have no issues with piston valve clearances. The only head that will throw you off there is a Twisted Wedge head.

AFR 185CC competition heads with 58 cc would work very well with that displacement and valves will clear, so long as they are not stock cast pistons. Performer RPM Air Gap is a very good streetable intake with them. You will pick up Hp and torque from 1500-6000.

Advice is much appreciated guys. Question on the AFR's.... I'm hearing the hardware is hit and miss [springs, guides and threaded rocker studs coming out] for $1,500 assembled , it's a good deal if all goes well.

Brent, do you sell them? and is it out of the box? or do you go through them?
If I have to buy them bare and put all the good stuff in, the other heads are a better buy.
This is the only reason I did not want AFR's unless I am wrong.
Before I make any decisions I just want to clear this up.

Nothing wrong with AFR's out of the box. They have really nice valve/spring packages and the spring pressures are set up for revvy hydraulic rollers. You can do a little more port work to them and add a few cfm, but they work great right out of the box, especially for an engine of your displacement.

Get the right gaskets
 
RET_COP Lou make sure you have the right head gaskets and intake gaskets. Double check for the steam holes and that the intake gaskets don't block and of the return ports or intake ports. Rick L.

The best head for your application would be our KC 195 Signature head. We developed this head to be the best street wedge head in the 195 cc to 210 cc intake port volume range. The head has 17 degree valve angle which stands the valve up straighter in the cylinder and unshrouds it for better flow. The valve angle works fine with most all 20 degree valve relief pistons up to about .700 lift.
Because of the higher short side on these heads which makes the runner longer the 195cc intake port is more like a 180cc intake port on most heads. The 195 head uses a 2.02/1.60 valve with a 5/16 stem. It is the best flowing 2.02/1.60 wedge head from .100 to .600 lift out there right now and makes the most power. We have tested the 195 head against the AFR 205 and others and made more power with it even though it has a smaller runner and valve size. The KC 210 head will make more power than the AFR 225 head and flows better as well with a smalle runner. With these smaller runners you get more torque and throttle response.
One reason you do not see more being used is because you have to get them from Brodix or Keith Craft and a lot of engine builders are not dealers with Brodix or do not want to call us or have our head on their engine.
We are about done with a newer larger version that will be for large cubic inch small blocks or race engines that will still use a stud mount rocker. Most heads that flow what this new does has to have a special higher dollar shaft rocker system. We wanted to create a head that a customer could change to without high dollar rockers and off-set lifters. The new head will use either a 2.100 or 2.125 intake valve and a 1.60 exhaust valve. The head will flow 360cfms on the intake and 250 cfms on the exhaust at .750 lift.
Just a little information on some of the other stuff that is out there right now. We do sell a lot of the AFR heads as well which we also do complete in house. We try to get the best head for the customers needs. We have several CNC porting programs for most all makes of heads and this allows us to get the best head for your application. We even have several CNC chamber designs depending on how you will use the heads and what compression you need or want.
