351 Windsor Operating Temp??

Is running back and forth between 190 and 230 about the standard range I should see on a hot day for the 351 Windsor? Just regular driving. Is 230 to high?

Thanks,

Aaron

Should be fairly stable, depending on what thermostat you have. But a 40* swing is kind of a lot in my experiance. Air in the system, maybe?

Typical is 185-195 F for mine.

Your fan should kick in and keep the temp at or below 200. Something isn't working like it should.

MY 351W runs anywhere from 180 to about 200. Without the fan at a stoplight during the summer, it might go to to 220 or so, but the fan will bring it right back to around 190-195.

I just installed a new 190 thermostat that wouldnt open til about 220-230. I replaced it with a new one that opens just above where it should. If it's going up that high, then dropping off, then you may have the same problem.

If the higher temp is at idle or in stop and go, and the lower temp is at highway speeds, then you have the classic symptoms of an insufficient fan. This is the primary cause of engine temp swings like yours.
