Well im very sorry. That is the same b.s.they gave me.But lucky for me the guy that put mine in the cobra has bought about 10 motors from them so they were obligated to fix it.Dont be to down the local speed shop is a rousch dealer and they have gotten 3 rousch motors back in the last 9 months same thing smoking and mucho oil comsumption. You will get it fixed and you will be very happy. My neighbor just bought a 2010 zr1 corvette all he saw was the back of my cobra up to 105 mph. that is when i let off. Good Luck Chris

cheers chris.

G'day Chris:
this might be a shot in the dark, i know you said that you shipped the engine from the US to Sydney and that it will be cheaper for you to fix it downunder. However, if I were you I would contact the outfit you bought the engine and place a claim for your expenses down there, they might even pay for you to ship the engine back. These companies are not going to tarnish threir names so give it a shot mate.
I have a 427 FE Side oiler and the smoking between shifts was due to bad valve seals. Also try using Valvoline 20-50 VR1 racing oil thjis might help. These engines have large tolerances and thin oils tend to make the smoking.
Hope this works for you mate.
Cheers
Lou

Hi lou
Thanks for the advise but i bought the motor from a dealer in the USA, it was almost $4000 cheaper, our aussie doller is very strong against the US dollar, if i bought it here i would have simply have sent it back to them and they would have got it repaired, ive got the car back now, its fixed i'm going to start a new thread on what the problem was.
cheers chris.

Chris,
I have the same motor and a similar problem.
Doing some diagnostics now to see what the issues are.
Will post the results when we get them.

Good luck, Dallas!
You might want to give Jay (Cashburn above) a call. He has dealt with this issue and owns the Backdraft dealership in CT. He's a good guy and may be able to help.

Will do.
I did a crankcase pressure test to check the intake gaskets. (That's what the Ford technical support guy said was probably the issue) That is not the problem.
I'm pulling it out and sending it back to Ford for them to look at.
They guy who dyno'd mine thought there may be an issue with the oil supply/return path. When they initally spun up the oil pump, the large volume of oil to the heads seemed to overwhelm the drain path. This could possibly manifest itself in excess oil through the seals.

Hi Dallas
Sorry to here about your problem, its a shame these bastards at ford racing can't admit to there being a problem, i have had no follow up from marty at warranty, in my case the valve guides were shot and the valve springs soft (90-95 pounds should be 130) and from a brand new engine with zero miles, started smoking minutes after start up, i will not and won't recomend this motor to anyone and i hope people that have read this thread ring ford racing and give them a mouth full for treating there customers this way, marty is a p%i$k, i feel better now let us know what you find but if the motor goes back to ford they will fix it and give you BS as to what the problem was.
cheers chris.

Yes the drain back holes on the z heads on this motor are crap and combined with the HV oil pump can cause flooding at the top end, i did buy a standard oil pump and was going to fit it but seeing the new valve guides has fixed the problem i am holding off.
cheers chris.
