Spark Plugs
I`m looking to replase the Spark Pluks on my SBF 302 / 1994.
Engine is equiped with NGK BPR6ES11. Nearly each Plug shows a different burning face. Some suggestions about new Spark Plugs? Rico |
It sounds like you have more of a fuel delivery problem, if in fact there is a problem. Its hard to get a complete even burn on higher hp engine. I rund Autolites but would prefer NGK's. How different are the plugs?

In the fotos you can show the plugs some minutes after take them off from the cold engine.
I hope it helps to give me a hint. |
First off im not an expert and its kind of hard to tell from the photos but i dont see anything glaringly wrong with them. Im sure others with more knowlege can chime in, is it running poorley?

Better fotos.
Car seams to run well on ordinary highways. No coparisons, as it is my first V8:). Some times after stop the hot engine, it has one or two misfirings. Mostly after driving in town. |
I honestly dont see anything wrong there.

I don't think you have problem with the plugs so much as a tuning issue. Hard to tell from photos but looks like you are running a rich mixture or the engine is using oil. Could also be a plug that is to cold. I am using autolite 25's and not a problem.

The plugs look fuel and oil fouled to me.

This day, with the same spark plugs cleaned and corrected gap I made a nice trip. Country roads with a lot of gear shifting. Trying no driving under 2000 RPM.
Bevor driving out I checked the Oil Level. Dipstick shows max. Back home the plugs appears with a lot better face as you can compaire with my first fotos. And the best: I feel relieved:) Rico |
I would retorque the inlet manifold, fit a wideband O2 A/F gauge as a data logger to check A/F ratios while you're driving, and check the plugs again in 2000 miles.
One of your plugs in the early photos has a large glob of carbonised oil on the insulator. I'd also say that your Air/Fuel ratio is a tad rich. What carburettor are you using? |
The first photos look like the plugs were a little dirty, loading up maybe from city driving, last photos look perfect........
After stop and go driving, you need to get on it and run it thru a couple of gears to clean the plugs up!!!!!!! David |
Just on plugs-
I realize that any company can say their product is the best in the world. That said, on Stacey David's tv show Gearz, the E3's plug. It was tested by a engine builder named, Williams Precision Engines. Their test showed the TQ went from 428 to 425. If you can beleive the video showing the better/larger spark, they may do very well. Black Book: E3 SPARK PLUGS | Stacey David's GearZ Another test by engineers at Michigan Technological University. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62KavugC-5o There's also been other tests done by other company's on David's show, but you get the drift. My engine build is sponsored by E3 plugs for the life of my Cobra. The plan is to run both conventional plugs, then the E3's on the engine and,... chassis dyno, to see any difference's. So, we'll see how it goes. |

I agree. My motor would load up a bit from starting it up at shows for people. When leaving the show it would run crappy until the heat cleaned up the plugs, then it's fine.

My all time favorite plugs are the Accel 714 plugs. I can't always get them from my local speed shop since I may be the only one with an FE that uses them. So sometimes I may be running the Autolites as mentioned above. My plugs will look a little dirty if I don't get on it a bit before putting it away for the night.
