Piston question
Can SpeedPro H654P pistons be used in a 66 289 block without issue?

From what I've read, the basic difference in the 289 block vs the 302 is that the 302 cylinder length is longer to support the added stroke. The location of the wristpin in the piston is the same on both the 289 and 302 engines. You should be able to use the Speedpro H654P pistons. Are you using a 289 or 302 crank? Be sure you have the correct connecting rods. They are different lengths. The 289 is 5.1550" and the 302 is 5.0900".

I have a complete 289. I can get a full set of new H654P pistons for super cheap. Just wondering if they would work. The catalog does not show them interchanging, but doesn't have any specs that would cause alarm, nor any reason why they won't interchange.

Yes...they'll work fine.

Thank Mark. The deal passed and since I didn't get anything definitive, I passed on them.
