351 W block ID
Aloha,
I just got out from under my CR 427 which has a 351 W block. I put a new oil pan on and was able to clearly see the numbers so wrote them down. D4AE-6015-AA-13 I know some of you know how to read this so please feel free to let me know what I have here. In one way it doesn't matter because it runs great, don't have to worry about smogging here in Hawaii, but it would be nice to know just for grins. Thanks for your help |
Got this from a id chart I found on the net.
The first letter is the year range the eng was built A is from 70-79 Second position is the year of that decade 4 is a 1974 The third position indicates the type of vehicle A is a Ford The forth position indicates the type of part E stands for engine The rest of the letter and numbers are part number. Sort of confusion to read but they are as important as those first four. Hope this helps. |
351 engine numbers
According to a chart I found on the net your first four numbers mean
D = Year of 70-79 4 = Year of that decade meaning is it a 1974 A = Means a Ford E = Is the type of part ie: Engine So the answer is your have a 1974 Ford Engine There rest of the numbers and letters are a bit more confusing when reading the charts explanation but they really aren't as important as those first four. I don't know which site I found the chart on but its listed as a "Ford engine/parts explanation" chart. You might want to seach under those words. Hope this helps, good luck |
Thanks Greg - about what I was guessing.

A = a generic full size ford car.
6015 = base engine assembly, the specific Ford part number for a 351W block AA = 27th engineering version 13 = ???? Decoding Ford casting part numbers |
Thanks for the link - I bookmarked it for future reference.
