Rick, you're getting some great advice from quality engine builders on here. Are you assembling it yourself or having the engine built?

Brent, you make it sound so easy...

Well, it's easy to get fixated on minor details. Just trying to add some clarity. :)

Hope you're doing well my friend...

Very well and thanks.

You have everyone schooled in the used of rods...

Jamo will probably lock this thread with this comment...

Hope all is well with yours.

I will be assembling it myself after all maching is done. I have built several engines over the years. Never lost a bearing or had any catostophic failure yet. :)

Just as a heads up to other there are a lot of counterfeit Scat rods being sold by unscrupulous vendors. Especially over the internet. Beware!

trularin 11-12-2013 08:57 AM

Rick, I think there have been a few or was an "incident(s)" with those rods over the past couple of years...seem to remember someone was sending and engine back to the builder for rod failure.

Not sure if it was on CC. I hate getting old...you get CRS and it never goes away.

Good Luck with your build.

Tom Lieb from Scat was a guest speaker at one of our club meetings some time back and he said exactly what you've heard from Brent regarding H beam rods. They're heavier and not necessarily stronger. A rod fails when it suddenly changes direction at the top of the stroke with all that weight hanging on the end. An I beam rod is fine. The only way to insure rod life at high RPMs is to use the lightest piston and pin you can get.

Frank
