How to identify a ROUSH Engine?
I just purchased a car that was built about 8 years ago and supposedly has a ROUSH engine, or so the widow of the builder thinks. The intake is an edelbrock single plane, the heads are Edelbrock Jr, and the block is a World Products Man O War 351W/427 stroker. The only identifying mark i can find on the block is 427 followed by a series of 4 other numbers stamped into the front passenger side.
Roush doesn't list very much info about the blocks they use other than some are "seasoned", some are iron, and some are aluminum. I'm not sure if Roush always engraved their cylinder heads with the Roush name or not, but this one does not have the name on the heads. Any thoughts? |
Based on what you have provided I would say it is certainly not a Roush engine. Never saw them use Edelbrock heads or a World Products block.

Mitchell and Roush did not come to agreement about block or head supply. Roush went to Maskin for blocks and I think Mamo for heads..
The World block you have is excellent though. |
Thanks for that info. I figured it probably wasn't a Roush engine, but I am not disappointed. The car is loaded with very expensive parts, so I doubt the builder skimped on the engine.
It looks like the World Products Man O' War Block runs around 2800 and the Edelbrock Victor Jr heads are about 1600 a pair. It also has a Paxton Novi 1500 Supercharger, concept 1 pulley system, and a canton oil pan. Somebody definitely dropped some coin on this engine. |
WARNING! Old thread response
A Roush block (at least my SBF) is stamped "427SR739" for a 351W bored / stroked to 427 & serial # 739 in 2008 at the top rear of the block between the intake manifold and the bell housing. Polished valve covers are "Roush 427R 739" to allow the owner to brag it's a "R" vs. a "SR" if they are so inclined (or haven't contacted Roush for the dyno sheet/ read the block stamping:rolleyes: )

I put a warning in the Title Line that it's an old thread, no one provided the answer of how to determine if it was a Roush engine, I searched the site and didn't find any thread that answered the question either, so I included my block marking for anyone in the future that may stumble upon it when they search and how to decode the characters. Just trying to add to the knowledge base on this great site. Now I'm heading back to page 15 of Small Block Ford postings as I learn more of the history of SBF in Cobras... Mike |
Good point Mike and a good closure on the matter, although I did think that Cashburn did a pretty good job of dismissing the potential for it being a Roush engine.
