The glorious sound of 7000 rpm...
Ok, so not a Cobra, but I just wanted to post this video just to share the sound of an engine getting up on the cam and spinning to 7000 rpm.
This is a 408C that I built a few years back for a customer's '69 Mustang. It made 575 hp @ 6600 on the dyno here. Pump gas, mild-ish solid roller, CHI heads, etc.
At first, the owner just wanted a fun little street engine to push his Mustang around, but he has ever-so-slowly inched his way into bracket racing....and now has decided to make it a track-only car.
He's running a manual valve body C4, with a 4.10 gear out back. Obviously, he has some chassis and converter tuning to do, but he's snapping off consistent 11 flats at 124 mph. You can tell that the engine is begging for more torque converter, as he's launching off the trans-brake at 3000 rpm, and the engine doesn't really start making horsepower until 4500-5000 rpm. I think he's ordering a new torque converter today and I would expect to see some mid to upper 10 second 1/4's after he gets the suspension and traction lined out.
Turn up the volume...

THAT is one of the reasons I love building engines....

It really showed a lot of top end charge in that second video. Nice!

I'm not sure if he just passed him hard, or if the Nova tapped the brakes so he wouldn't break out.
Either way, it does seem to be coming on hard, and just needs a good solid hole shot.

Had him go to a looser converter and a set of 4.56 gears. He was racing Saturday in Kansas and it was very cold....was having trouble snagging traction.
