Roush 427sr - Flywheel, Clutch and throwout
Hey Gang,
Has anyone R&R their flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing on their Roush 427 (I have an SR)? If so can you please shoot me which parts (Brand/#) you used? In particular the flywheel - I read on another forum that the holes on a new flywheel need to be drilled out - meaning there is not a direct bolt-on available? Thanks. Jeff |
I usually send a RAM flywheel along with a RAM clutch kit for my customers that have Roush engines.
You need a 157T flywheel (aluminum or steel), and the clutch will depend on the bellhousing you're using and how the slave cylinder is mounted. If you have a factory style bell or a Quicktime bell currently, with the clutch fork pivoting on the passenger side, then a typical 10.5" diaphragm pressure plate with a late model Mustang throw out bearing is what you need. With some insight into how your current setup is installed, I can provide part numbers that will work perfectly. |

Here's the information from my build sheet: 26 spline clutch disc SFI Steel Flywheel T56 trans Clutch fork comes out the drivers side (about 90 degree angle) Standard cast bell housing from Roush The motor, trans and clutch stuff all came from Roush Hope this helps! Thanks. Jeff |
Standard issue stuff, nothing special.
Is your clutch slipping? |

Occasionally (1 in 50 normal starts) I get a little "shudder" when releasing the clutch from a stop in first. As close as I can tell it only happens when it is extremely hot outside and I have been driving the car for at least an hour. Never repeats during the drive. And it happens when I do a gradual start versus a hard acceleration. Any thoughts on what causes this and if it is an indication to replace the clutch and associated parts? BTW, the car has 5,500 miles on it and this has happened since I bought it with 2,000 miles. Neither the original owner nor I do hard launches. Thanks! Jeff |
That's normal...just a little chatter when it's hot. I wouldn't replace anything.
