No 1/4 mile times Dwight |
428 cobra jet,Holley 650 with expander plates, approx. 500 hp, 4 spd top loader with 3.54 rear end. I range between 11-14 mpg depending on how heavy the foot is. Got 15 mpg on the highway once. My cam's power band starts around 2500 rpm's and it is a nice fit performance wise.

FRP 427 boss, I've run with Weber 48 IDA's and a Holley 750 Ultra HP. TKO 600 with the .62 od and 3.55 gears. I get 10 - 15 mpg with the Holley, less than 10 mpg with the Webers. (maybe cause I'm harder on the throttle with that combo). ;)
Also have a BB 390 with Edelbrock carb, TCI C-6 automatic, don't know the rear ratio. get 15 - 20 mpg with that one. No 1/4 times on either car. |
402R with upgraded Roller-cam, Holly 770 Mech sec ,TKO 600, Dyno 514HP at Crank, 442 RWHP, 409FT/LBS o MPG and don't care :)

ender2664,
Considering your questions on the several threads you started, I think you're taking the wrong approach to deciding on an engine for your car. I respectfully suggest you contact one of the several respected engine builders mentioned on this forum and simply tell them what you want the end result to be. For example, your priorities might be: 1. Fun to drive at the speeds and RPM you are likely to see on the street. 2. Low maintenance (so you're not messing with tuning multiple carbs or adjusting valves several times a year). 3. At least 14 MPG during normal highway driving. 4. Can be upgraded to higher performance (and lower MPG) at a reasonable cost when desired. Then, let the expert decide what combination of components will best yield the results you want. .... Or you can come back here and get the opinions of people who may or may not know as much about engines as they think they do. |

Me: all aluminum 432 small block with 4" stroke, ported super vic intake, ported twisted wedge R heads with Jesel comp shaft rockers, .700 solid roller cam, 1200cfm throttle body, distributorless, external oil pump, aluminum flywheel. Custom aluminum quartermaster flywheel with twin disk. Close ratio T-5 with straight cut gears and dog rings, syncro on 5th. Ford Motorsport alloy 8.8 diff with 3.55. Car still under construction but 1/4 will be quicker than the six point cage will permit. Top speed will be "faster than the others", mpg will be who cares. |
You are pretty close to my priorities...
1. Fun to drive period! But as u stated "at the speeds and RPM you are likely to see on the street." Is a very large part of that. 2. Low maintence 3. At least 15 MPG during normal driving, as I believe have a number at or lower than ten would lower my propensity to take the car out. 4. Can be upgraded to higher performance at a reasonable cost Once I am use to the car. Also, the car has to run to 60 in under 5 flat. |
ender,
According to one online calculator, a 2650# car with 300 HP should do 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. Of course it depends largely on driver skill, car setup and track conditions. But it doesn't take huge power in a car as light as these to go very quickly. |
I am pretty good in a drag race. Back in the day I set a record for fastest 1/8th in a stock v6 camaro. I know the cobra is a completely different beast. But point being that I do know what im doing in a drivers seat.

Back then I ran MT ET Street radials 275/40/17's. I switched to Nitto NT05R's for the last few years as they have stiffer sidewalls for better handling on the street and still hook well.
You can see those old 1/4 mile passes on youtube at the bottom. |
