302 Oil Pan Options

Hi, I'd like some options to replace my double hump rear sump pan. Engine block is "87" 302. Front distributor with dip stick on drivers side that goes through the block into the back of pan. Car is street cruiser. NO extreme driving. Prefer no mods to pump & pickup. Hump design for clearance not a problem. Thank you, Nick

Look at Canton

Horseracejudge Nick take a look at Canton oil pans if not looking for period correct. You didn't say if your motor is running a windage tray? Also look about increasing the amount of oil too. If you are running 5 quarts would go to 7 quarts. Reason being, when coming off highways on long off ramps the motor doesn't have any oil starvation issues of going dry or airating. The higher the side "G" the harder and longer it takes for the oil to return to the pan. Good luck Rick. Ps watch your ground clearance, Canton pans are wide but stay above the bellhousing. You would need a new pickup but on most applications the pickup has a larger tube for more supply to the oil pump. Good thing.

I put a 7 quart Champ pan and pick up on mine. Changing the pickup is no big thing.

Rick & Steve, Really appreciate the info. I'm new to Cobras. There are so many options out there when looking for pan replacements. It is a little confusing.

if you run into a problem

Horseracejudge Nick if you run into a problem, I am about 1.5 hours away. Could do this repair in a couple of hours if needed. Rick L. Ps you need gaskets, seals, RTV, for the job.

Thanks Rick. Good to know you're a few exits up NJ TRPK. Jersey isn't exactly Cobra country
