Solid Lifter Lash Spec Needed
After searching around here I learned a lot but not what I was looking for! :LOL:
I have a solid lifter 302 with iron block and heads. The cam is unknown as the receipt only shows it as a "blank" for a custom grind. I have seen recommendations of .020-.025" hot and even .022" specifically. Can the experts confirm this? The engine has Weber induction in case that factors into your opinion at all...not sure why it would. :confused: |
An unknown grind with unknown ramps and lift makes it very tough iuf not impossible to get it exact. I'd measure all of the intakes and exhaust seperately with a dial indicator and take an average. I would only guess that your going to end up in the 15-20+ on intake and 20-25+ on the exhaust. JMHO

If you go that far with a dial indicator, you could add a degree wheel to the balancer, find true TDC, add a pointer, then measure the cam at 0, .006, .020, & .050 lifter rise (at the pushrod tip), and peak lift (average of .050 either side to find true peaks).
Once you have done that, you would have more chance of finding the grind. Otherwise, run .022, and if it sounds rattly, run them a little tighter in stages. One of my cams specified .020, I ran it at .014, was slightly rougher idle, but sounded nicer, instead of a "bucket of bolts". Gary |

The latest is that to prevent the pounding of the lifters , run a rev kit.....or set the lash at 0.002 Yes......two thou.
