Hammerhead Hemi Style SBF Heads

I came across these cylinder heads the other night and saw that the owner was affiliated with Jon Kaase in the past. Based on what was printed they look like some pretty nice results for a 427w. Did not know if anyone had used these heads in a build or had plans to do so. With a big 440+ci Windsor these look like they could potentially make some nice power on pump gas using hydraulic roller. I'm not as up to date with what is considered the "best" so there might be other options that are better suited for a street car running pump gas with a hydraulic roller setup but it was a product I had not come across in the past and though it was worth posting

$5K

Not going into a shock tower vehicle, I don't think.

You have to pay to play. I would think its going to take a similar caliber cylinder head to maximize a streetable pump gas hydraulic roller setup in a big inch Windsor.

They seem fairly good value for what they are. :)

Look at the torque curve in the Power and Performance News write up.

http://www.speednik.com/wp-content/b...61-640x466.jpg

It starts nosing over in a hurry at 4500 rpm and manages to drop to 480 by 6400 rpm. This is not the kind of performance you would expect from a high flowing $5K set of custom heads. Even worse the torque decline shows no sign of letting up at 6400 but instead is headed south at an increasing clip and so is the HP.

A declining torque curve is the hall mark of poor volumetric efficiency. From a visual inspection of the photos you would not expect this. The dyno results tend to be the real thing however and they tell a very different story.

A 427 inch motor that only makes 600 HP is yesterday's news. A modest build using something like the old tunnel port heads with today's cams would easily crest 700 maybe 750 HP and still be a reasonably good driving street engine.

$5K is a lot of money for eye candy — and that is just the price of the heads. I am going to assume cam pricing would be a push. That still leaves custom intake, pistons, and exhaust that you have to step up for.

All in all there are better solutions available.

I don't think the original Intent of the build was to be a crazy pump gas build.

eschaider 07-31-2018 08:35 AM

and why would you build or use a head with a $5000 price point when you could build a more powerful engine using very much less expensive OEM components, standard aftermarket headers and a readily available wider selection of much lower cost intake manifolds ???

What OEM heads are you referring about?

CHI heads make a lot of power ..you're at least 4k into them.

I believe that the Shelby Engine Co. Has recently released a similar looking cylinder head? It looks like a baby BOSS 429.

I never liked the inline heads unless they brodix

moar_carbz 08-07-2018 10:18 PM

I think I saw somewhere... facebook maybe? that they had a build where they were in the high 900's, scraping 1000 hp.

One of the customer testimonials for those heads quoted 715 HP. More HP for FAR less $$ sounds like a much better deal to me - unless someone places crazy value on eye candy.
