Canton sump pan on 302W
I’m soon to fit a Canton Road Race sump pan (15-630S) to my 302W.
Got a question: is the Canton pan sturdy enough to support the total weight of the engine? More information: …The engine is currently mounted to an engine stand, but it can’t go back on the engine stand when the scatter shield and Toploader are mounted to the engine. I'm thinking that I might need to make up a frame to support the engine/trans. assembly until it's fitted to the car.... Comments? Cheers, Glen |
Glen,
I would not recommend pacing the weight of the engine on the oil pan. I have some steel support brackets that fit under the engine block and bolt onto where the motor mounts would bolt on. I will take a picture of them with measurements later today and post them. Cheers, Jim |

Glen,
Here are the pictures of the supports. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=18998&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=18999&thumb=1 The bases are 22" long, the tops are 8" long and the height is 11". Mark the holes for the tops so that they match the mounting bracket holes and then drill them out slightly over sized to give you a little room for error. I would check the height from the mounts to the bottom of the pan just to make sure that it will be high enough. I have the original style Aviad road race pan on mine. I imagine that the Canton is about the same size, but better to be safe and make sure that the vertical measurement is correct. Good luck. Jim |
Thanks Jim. Great information.
