Dart sb vs SVO sb
Here is a comparison of the two blocks side by side.
This is the SVO... http://www.houstonperformance.com/images/4boltblock.jpg This is the Dart... http://66.96.130.106/archives/2002/0...k/maincaps.jpg Cranky |
I know some production models have it...
Do any SBF or even SBC setups have the main caps as one assembly? Instead of using a girdle, it's one billet assembly? -steve in nj- And where do you even get an oil pan for that Dart sucker? It sure is perty. |
Steve,
With the 4 bolt mains , no need for a girdle. The Dart also 4 bolts the two end mains. Oil pan?? Uses stock oil pan same as any 351W. |
Roger, all you need now is cross-bolts--just kidding, not a Y block. Looks nice.
|
My only concern about the Dart block is the proprietary oiling to the top side of the block. Not saying it's bad, I just don't know. Bottom side appears to be better than the SVO and hard to tell but the Dart looks to have more rod side clearace for stroakers so you may not have to notch the block. What heads are you think'n of using? Good choice.

Do deep skirt aftermarket blocks exist for Windsors? Just plain curiosity.
-steve in nj- |
Steve - There is no, so called "Blower Block" made for Windsors that I know of. Blower blocks tend to be quite heavy, even in aluminum, due to extra webbing, skirting, and etc. Crankster has got "the best there is",,, at least for right now. And even if a blower block was out there IMHO, it would be the wrong thing to use on a cobra.

Dart block-price
I called my local hiper parts store and they do not show availability for the Dart block. Where can I get in contact with a distributor that handles Dart in southern Calif. Also, does Dart make a complete short block assembly. Anyone know the pricing.
Ford shows a 342 short block for $2300.00. Thanx Harris:) |
Harris the info here may help.
http://66.96.130.106/archives/2002/0...ck/index.shtml I don't know if Dart makes a complete short block as their block is a racing piece. Best to find an engine builder and have him complete the job. Cranky |
