Correct Heater Connection
I am fitting a heater to my Dax and would appreciate if anybody could advise me of the correct way to connect the hoses.
The engine is a s.b chevy and the water pump has a heater hose connection as does the inlet manifold. Is the correct direction of flow from the pump to the heater and then to the manifold (ie. pump as flow to heater) or is it inlet manifold to heater to pump (ie. pump as return). I really would appreciate your help here guys. Hope you are all doing great and enjoying the prospect of good cobra going weather coming up ( I hope). Mike.:) |
Mike,
From water pump to heater and then back into the intake manifold. Ron :) |
The correct way is from a port near the front of the intake, through the valve, to the heater, and return to the water pump. The small ports on the water pump are return ports.

David,
Thanks for correcting what I posted. I was in a hurry and never even read what I posted. Man I have got to stop these late night sessions. Ron :o :o :o |
why are there 2 ports on the water pump? chuck

Chuck,
One of the water pump ports is for the thermostat bypass hose. Ron |
This is pretty much true of all U.S. made V8 engines. Fitting on intake manifold (or block) is pressure side, hot water out to heater. Typically it is located just behind the thermostat, flow wise, so the heater is producing heat as early as possible.
Heater return flow goes to water pump, or suction side. Many engines have two return lines here. One, is for the heater return, and the second for a thermostat by-pass to circulate coolant through the engine while the engine is warming up, and no coolant flow is going through the radiator yet. |
Thanks very much guys. As usual you have all been extremely helpful.
All the best. Mike. |
