How long at machine shop?

Generally speaking how long does it take an "better than average" machine shop to complete the assembly of a new engine comprised off "all brand new, in the factory box parts"
I know this is kinda like asking is it colder in the winter or in the north. I bought a new Ford 302 Sportsman block and a 347 Stroker kit from Ford Racing. The machinist was required to bore the new block .030, notch the lower part of the block for rod clearance, and port the heads. Then assemble the complete package for me to truck away. Assuming there was not a higher than usual backlog. Two certified machinists and a helper working. All part were taken to the machine shop at one time.

It all depends. A lot of machine shops sponser race cars, their engines will always go to the front of the line so they can get out by friday. If the shop gets a fleet service contract to do a dozen forklift motors or diesels that is a bigger paycheck than your little motor. So it all depends. About 10 years ago, I had a block I needed a hone job done on. I take it to the machine shop and tell him I need it right away. He says, "What you want me to drop everything else and do your block right now?"
I said "Yes, that is exactly what I want." For a couple of dollars more, he had my block done same day, and it was done nice. Talk to your machine shop, see if they can bump you up on the list, but it might cost ya a little more.
