Noobie questions. Please help

Hi guys. This is my first post, so be gentle with me ;)

I am seriously considering an FFR Coupe kit. I live in England and will therefore need to source a donor Mustang from the USA to be shipped at the same time in the same container.

My initial questions relate to the 5.0ltr engine. Is it possible to pull all the nasty emmission control stuff off the engine? And can anyone point me to a site that will show me how to up the power of this unit. I really want 300bhp at least.

Should I convert it to webbers? Can this be done even?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark

Quattroboy,

Welcom to the club. Wilf is over in your part of the world and would be a great person to talk to about what to do and what not to do.
Yes, the smog junk can be removed from the 302 if they will allow it over there. And yes it is possible to put Webbers on a 302. Eidelbrock makes some kits for most engines and you can sort of select which power range you want with them. Other guys on the club willbe able to tell you more about what is available and what to do to reach your desired power range.

Mark,

It's quite easy to remove all the smog stuff, especially if you go with carb(s). If you opt to stay with the EFI, you can still remove all the smog gear and replace the solenoids/sensors in the wire harness with some resistors.

All the information you could ever want on upping the power of a Ford 5.0L engine can be found at the Corral.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think that I will stick with the efi, but throw on a 'mock webber' stack manifold from verycoolparts.

Not sure if there is a power gain from this alone, but it may have to suffice initially. I suspect that I will be using the stock 5ltr engine and heads for a year or so after build. Perhaps drop in a fast road cam? Plus engine management upgrade?

Keep you posted.
Mark
