Superformance Custom Header Help

OK, I need help with having a set of custom headers made for a new Superformance Cobra. The car is in Rhode Island but I will travel for the right shop if they are good! I'm building a 351w (iron block by DART) with a 9.5 deck height and stroking it out to be 427ci. I'm using Brodix "Track 1X" heads with the Ford "N" pattern. J&E Forged pistons at 10:1, Eagle H-rods, King crankshaft, etc. My problem is the stock Superformance headers dont work and I need to have a set custom made. Can anyone offer any suggestions...???? Hi Sean,
Unless you are looking for a larger primary tube you may just be able to have the header flanges changed on your Superformance headers. I don't remember, do the Brodix Track 1 heads have a raised exhaust port? HTH, Mike |
Mike, not only am I using a block with a 9.5" deck but yes, the heads do have raised ports and a wider bolt pattern vs. the 'stock' Superformance headers. I've spoken with a few shops and they would rather just start from scratch rather than to try to re-work the old headers.
Tube size is not a real problem, but the height of the block and ports are... The geometry of the headers has changed vs. 'stock'. Thanks |
For anyone in the area, the guys at Tubular Automotive, Rockland MA were great on the phone. I'm going to visit next week and talk in person.. But so far a strong recommend if you need anything done.

Hi Sean,
The deck height for all 351Ws is 9.5" so the only thing you have to deal with is the larger bolt pattern and the raised exhaust port. I would suggest taking advantage of the larger exhaust bolt pattern and have your headers built with at least 1 3/4 tubing, 1 7/8 being better for an engine the size of yours. HTH, Mike |

Thanks for the info.. According to FORD, The Ford 351W is offered in two deck heights.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have said all stock 351W engines had 9.5 deck heights. THe Superformance headers were built assuming most customers would utilize the stock 9.5 deck. The FRPP race blocks are offered as you stated. 9.2 also happens to be the original stock deck height for the 351 Cleveland. HTH, Mike |

You aren't going to notice an extra .3" of deck height as it won't effect header fitment to any substantial degree.

I agree to a point.
Thanks and I agree about the .3in / my real issue is that the headers will have a different cylinder head port pattern vs. the Superformance header.
