bolts, Engine Fastener

I have been trying to find a stainless steel, 12pt, 5/16"x5.50"x18tpi bolt.I have tried ARP but they only have up to 5.0". Anyone know who carries an assortment of stainless steel fasteners ?

McMaster-Carr (mcmaster.com) has arguably the most extensive line of hardware imaginable. Hit your local True Value hardware, they might have it. (My local True Value, after seeing me several times a week for over a year has offered me a job.) You're in the hardware capital of the world (Chicago). Try flipping through the yellow pages, and making some calls.

That being said, if you can find this in a 6", cut off 1/2", and clean up the threads with a file, and 5/16x18 die. If it's a critical bolt, consider a grade 8 instead of stainless which is Cadmium plated for corrosion resistance, and it's stronger.

Try a Sears hardware store, they have a large assortment of bolts
and all kinds of fasteners.

Good prices, they have a large select and you can call them for details on an item.

I don't mean to be nosey, but what is with the 12 pt bolt?

Why not 6 pt likethe rest of us?

I think the requirement for 12 point is going to make it real tough. If you would accept hex or socket heads, South Coast Stainless has them.

Thanks for the info! Totally Stainless solved 95% of my problem. The other 5% is also taken care of. As for ' What's with the 12pt?' Its all about attention detail!

Isn't it nice to have friends like us a klick away!

Totally Stainless is great. They also have a nice printed catolgue. I used their 12 point bolts are really nice they are srtong and easy to use, but they don't have the sharp edges of a hex head bolt. I used them on a dirt track bike and because they don't have the sharp edge, there is less to accidentally catch your leathers on.
