Ford 302 overbore

Hi!

Im hoping you guys may be able to help me as I expect the use of Ford engines is a bit wider in the US than it is in the UK cobra scene.

Ford 302 blocks are hard to find in the UK, (sadly not too many V8 Fords around) so Ive managed to find one that looks like its had a recent 60 thou rebore.(there is no ridge at the top of the bore) I hope all I will have to do is hone it and use it.

But if it needs a further overbore can I sleeve this motor easily? (i.e get a mcahine shop to do it) and how reliable will it be after its been sleeved?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

P.S I cant use a new block due to or SVA rules for emissions.

If this is a rare block, sleeve it before you start to build it.
If you break a cylinder wall I doubt it will be repairable.

If it's sleeved now it should be good as new.

Andy,

Any good machinie shop should be able to sleeve your motor and it should be as good as new. I think I would have them go to a .030 sleeve though as the .030 and .060 are more standard over bores and pistons are easier to get for them. I know several people who are running big blocks and small blocks that had to be bored way out to clean them up and then sleeved and they have never had a problem. Just takes a good machine shop that will do it correctly.

Ron :) :)
