Dry sump tank internals
I'm a newbie to this forum but looks like a great place for intelligent info. Building my FFR as a ground up (no donor parts here). I fell upon an all alum. sprint car 351 block, dry sump style. Looking for sketches, prints, any help on building the internals for the alum. dry sump tank (2.5-3.0 gals). Planning on a cylinder approx. 16" tall x 9" dia. Any help is appreciated. :D

These sketches will be very helpful, thanks a million. To answer about the pump drive, I found a new 3 stage Weaver pump. Gaerte Racing gave me a great deal on it as they are using a different style now. Using the standard 1" wide cog belt drive off the crank. Bought a drive and pulley set from Weaver but pitched the alum. crank flange as it was too weak to support the serpentine belt pulley mounted on its end. I chose to design and build the serpentive drive set-up from scatch as I hate cheezy looking turnbuckles and rod ends to support an alternator. A bit of work but it's polished and anodized and looks pretty sharp. You can tell I like talking about this stuff, love to hear what other guys have done in tight spots or to be different...that's why I went with the Tremec 6 speed gearbox, just to be different...

Cool - did you buy the motor as a complete sprint car deal, or are you building it up from a bare block? I was just interested in getting a cam-driven pump, but I can't find any Ford sprint car parts brand new anymore....
There are quite a few guys over here putting T56's in their Cobras. "Aussie Mike" http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/memb...threadid=46886 on the Australian Forum has engineered a mid-shift conversion that has proven to be a well designed mod. I think he'll be busy making these for all the 6 speed guys over here.... Got any pics? |

Yes, pix I've got, don't get me too excited about this...I'll talk your ear off! I've been distracted with a real estate project for a few months and with wintertime coming on here in the states I'm back to the cobra. The block is a new one, ground up. I am embarrased to say that it was given to me by a good friend who casts them for Ford SVO. It had a minor flaw that was not material to function and was collecting dust and he owed me a favor or two. I just posted the details in the FFR section of this forum group. How do I attach photos? I don't mind if you talk my ear off - I have another one! I love the way you mounted the alternator. Machined aluminum ALWAYS looks good. Did you write the CNC program for it? Fantastic work! I can't wait to see what other machined goodies will pop up on the car!
I got your photos. Three of the photos were already small enough file size to just attach to any ClubCobra post. Anything under 40k file size, just hit "Browse" in the "Attach file" section underneath where you type the message. You can attach one image at a time. If you want to get a gallery going, just hit the little camera image beside your username. Upload your photos from there. the only dry sump tank you have room for in a ffr is mounted on the x member there is a picture of a d/s tank that i sell in the renegade post on the main forum. jim |
navigation problems
Trying to find the thread you mentioned with the pic of the x-member mounted tank. I found a set-up off the shelf from ARE (CA, USA) that is 9" in dia. and 16" tall. I have room for this and planned to mount it on the passenger side as an offset to driver side weight, every little bit helps. Can you send me a link or instx on how to get to that thread???
