electric fuel pump
I have a SPF with a SVO 351W. The car is equipped with only a mechanical fuel pump. I would like to add a electric fuel pump to improve gas flow. Is it a easy install? Does it add to the engines performance ? I read the original cars used the electric as a booster" for the mechanical pump.

Gary - if your existing mechanical fuel pump is providing sufficient fuel pressure at WOT (normally 4-6 psi for a carb), then an electric one will not improve performance one iota.
Do you have symptoms of fuel starvation? If not, spend your money on something else. WIlf |
Easy ad on,
Wilf is right unless you just want another switch to toggle. Simply locate your electric fuel pump within 12 inches of your fuel cell. Mine is located on the frame above and behind my rear axel as is my fuel filter. If you don't intend to use your mechanical fuel pump remove it and block the opening off with one of the triangle shaped chrome/alum fittings sold at AutoZone. A little fuel line to your carb(s) and your done. Wiring: Red wire to Accy side of ignition key to a toggle switch terminal. Then coming off the other terminal take that wire back to your hot wire of the new fuel pump. The black wire from the fuel pump is grounded to your frame. Your good to go. Or you could just bypass the toggle swithch but I like to be able to bump my engine when I am setting my solid lifters without having fuel to my carbs. Clois |
I would never install an electric fuel pump without a safety switch. Avail from Jegs or Summit and easy to install. I don't like FIRE

You are right Brent,
Lots of reasons to spend the $5.00 for a switch for the electric fuel pump. I am with you, I wouldn't consider an electric fuel pump without a manual shut off toggle switch. But you could wire it up direct with your key. Clois |
Safety switch shuts off the pump in case of roll-over, like a mercury switch?

Unless you have fuel injection you don't need the electric pump. I would avoid it since Cobras have lots of hot metal around them.
