Spark Plug Gap for a 302?

I don't have access to the engine builder but I pulled the plugs to change them and the average gap was .045. This seems high to me. I am at about 500ft above sea level on average. Has cast iron heads and a cam also a 4 barrel.
Thanks

.036 is what I would suggest...............045 sounds like they were slapped in to the motor right out of the box and never gapped at all..........

Unless of course you have a MSD. Seems to me they call for a larger gap.

By the way, how is your son Bill?

Rick is correct. If you have an MSD or Jacobs they call for a larger gap. My Jacobs calls for a gap of .015-.019 above normal. I have found that setting the plugs at .049 seems to work best. My stock gap was .035.

Back to his normal 12 year old self...Amazing what happens when they (not his regular Ped. service) actually put you on antibiotics before the chest cold(flu actually) turns in to pnumonia.......Five days of taking the medication, he cleared right up.....Of course the wife is now down and out with Bronchitis, but with her own course of antibiotics, this too will pass quickly.........As for myself, I have a dose of "Hot Chips" and never get sick....With my unique eating habits (bagels, chips, pretzels, etc), germs have nothing healthy to feed off of    .

Thanks for asking.

Bill S.

PS: Even with a MSD system, I would not suggest anything higher than .040 in regards to spark plug gapping.......
