streetable hp

will make this short-am tired. can anyone tell me how much hp can be had from a 302? must be for cheap $, pump gas, and daily driver. have been toying with idea for ffr roadster, but rains too much in houston. probably buy the coupe.also, would 351 be able to deliver that much more power?

Matt... mild cam, a set of after market heads, and a vortec supercharger will give your 302 a real kick. Probably the most bang for your buck when you look at the bottom line.

If you go with FFR the 302 will be the most economical choice as it will probably come with the donor, otherwise get a 351. It's stronger and there's no substitute for the extra cubes for roughly the same $$ for a decent used motor. In fact you may find the 351 to be cheaper. From that point on any money you invest in either motor will yield greater proportional gains on the 351. Again no substitute for cubes.

thanks for the info. i have considered the supercharger route, but that would push back my timeframe. haven't ruled it out for the future though. as to the 351question- i like the extra cubes, but i'm not sure how much more overall cost would be. either way i read about the new sb heads from kasse that would bolt on to both, but i only saw flow #'s for the 302. i would imagine that a 351 would show greater gains-but i would like to see them first. anybody out there have any bench #'s ? again thanks for the help. matt

Check out the latest issues of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine. They have a good article on some high end Windsor heads and the new Kaase head is included. Considering the other heads were all ported the Kaase head did pretty good. You must understand though that heads with intake port volumes as big as the Kaase (247cc) are way too big for use on a 302 and even most 351's. The test engine in the article is a 427 Windsor stroker. For a 302 you should be looking at heads like AFR165's or TFS Twisted Wedge, both did extremely well in the MM&FF testing.
