PCV Valve troubles!!!!
ok, im dumb let me get that out of the way first...
now...I've got a carbeurated 302...I'm just building it i'ts never been run before...I've got "Cobra" valve covers from Ford Motorsport...each cover has a pipe thing that sticks up...on one side, the breather cap simply presses on...i've done that, but for the other side, I seem to be having some troubles...I know a PCV valve goes there, but I don't know which one to get...I saw another car with the same covers and he had removed the metal "pipe" that comes up, and he had a rubber gromet with the valve coming out from there...do I have to remove that pipe, along with the plate underneath it? or do I get a valve that will fit excatly into that pipe...Thanks very much!!!! |

I am not sure as my valve covers have the holes and I use a twist on cap on the left side and a gromet and PCV valve on the other side. But a guy I know has those with the pipes sticking up and I think he got a rubber plug or gromet like fitting that went right into the top of the pipe and the PCV valve went into that just like the ones that don't have the pipes. I tried calling him but he isn't home. I am sure some of the guys here have that setup and can tell you for sure. You aren't dumb. I can't answer the question for sure either and I rank just above dumb. At least you are intelligent enough to ask rather than mess something up. Ron :confused: |

There is an adaptor rubber grommet you get to allow you to put the PCV in.
The Valve cover with the baffel behind the hole should be on the right side. That is the cover that gets the valve. Run a hose to the 1/4" barb fitting at the base of ther rear of the carb. The other hole should have any assortment of breathers, pipe connecting it to the airfilter or whatever. The engine runs and creates a vacuum. The 1/4" barb fitting's hose draws air that has the crankcase gases into the intake where the gases are burned. Since it is pulling air from the engine crankcase, a vent of some sort ( the other hole in the left side valve cover ) must be present. Filter the air coming into the engine crankcase or you'll be sorry. That's a quick lesson in PCV. Ta Da. Hope this helps!!! :3DSMILE: |
Put a breather on both valve covers, don't worry about a PCV valve unless your breathers blow oil all over the valve covers, or there are smog restrictions requiring one.
