Plug wires
Who has the best method for neatly running your plug wires on a 351w? I would like to see pictures and a list of products/part numbers on devices that you used to run your wires.
I have tried a couple of ways to do it, and both just look messy to me. I am sure some of you have found a great method that looks good and keeps the darn things off the headers! |

I have a picture in my gallery that sorta shows the plug wires. I tried to load a better picture but the computer timed out. Look for the picture showing the radiator. What I did was get a vertical wire loom set up. these mount to the same screws that mount the valve covers and are made of heat resistant plastic. they are available in red, black, or blue. I'll see if I can find out who makes them and where i got them. I hope this helps MH |

Thanks for the idea. I think I can see what you did from your picture. I saw those parts at the local speed shop, so don't bother looking for the details! It looks like it will neaten things up a lot. Any problem with wires too close to headers? |
While it looks like a clean way to run the wires I would worry about running the wires in contact with each other for any length. My concern would be "cross fire" or "voltage leak" into the adjacent wire. This is often called "induction". Where one wire "induces" a current in the other wire, one wire looses and one wire gains. Which doesn't do either one any good!
Perhaps not a problem with really good quality wires? Hmmmmm,,,,, maybe. |

Use the plug wire stands and wire seperators, just dont use a "zip tie" to hold or support the wires. In time the wires will rub together and wear the outter silicone wrap. Check to see that the steering shaft dosent rub either. |
I have mine running next to each other using the "Made For You" looms that are mounted on valve cover bolts. The wires maintain exactly the same spacing and neatly roll around the fronts of the valve covers.
Pros: They look cool as hell, and they don't cover the valve covers - AT ALL! Unfortunately I have not been able to upload any pics yet (yeah I've only been here for 7 months, seems like I'd have gotten around to it by now) but I will post some soon. My attempt at being unbiased still says it's one of the coolest looks out there. I'm not too biased, there are things under my hood that aren't as cool as what's under other hoods. But my plug wires I think look pretty bad-asp. I'll try to upload some pictures tonight.... JP |
by the way, my setup's a lot like Mike's. I think I have a pic that shows more of it somewhere on my home PC. I'll take a look.
I don't think induction's a big issue with higher quality wires. Mike, looks like Jacobs wires? I was working with a VERY strict all black and silver under-hood scheme, otherwise Jacobs was my choice. They make great stuff. I have the Ford Racing 9.5mm wires, probably made by Moroso or someone like that. Seems to work fine. |

Here's a pic of the partial engine. A few things changed significantly, but the plug wires are basically in the same spot. I trimmed them up to meet the distributor better, but you get the idea.....
