Solid motor mounts for a sb/SPF
Hello to all. A new poster here, so please turn off the flame throwers.....
Back in '01 when I put the 392 in my Superformance, I was only disappointed in one thing......the quality of the motor mounts contained in the installation kit. Made in China or India or?.... Anyway, I scoured all the Ford Magazines and Jeg's, Summit, etc. I would like to switch to solid mounts. I have them in my street rod and am very happy with them. I just returned from examining the chassis to see if I could put a brace from the front of each head to the chassis.......looks too complicated. I suppose I could fabricate them, (I have the tools and material), but was wondering if there is a cross reference, of if some SPF owners have gone this route. Thank you in advance! ron |

I upgraded my 351w motor mounts to polyurethane units made by Olthoff Racing, a SPF dealer in NC. They are of excellent quality - I highly recommend them. I custom make small block polyurethane engine mounts for the SPF chassis. My engine mounts prevent all engine movement associated with engine torque, without any harsh vibrations transmitted through the chassis. The design was based on a proven street rod engine mount, which we also make. Check out the last page in my gallery for pictures of the SPF engine mount, I think you have to click on the picture to bring it up. Some of the features: Compact design, laser cut mild steel, tig welded, powder coated semi gloss block, all new stainless steel hardware, along with comprehensive instructions and a tube of Loctite. You dont make them for the 460 Huh? I have been trying to figure out a way to rig a torque strap to my car since day one, and I cant decide how to do it. Better mounts are the answer.

Drill through the mount and install a bolt and lock nut. It will dampen the vibration and keep your moter from over-torquing.

I have the polyurethane engine mounts that Rodney is making! They are awsome and I would strongly suggest you take a good look at them!
I have SPF1676 with a Dart based 427stroker putting out over 500hp. I dont get alot of engine vibration and no engine movement. If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to send pictures or talk to anyone about these mounts!! Sean Cobra1676@aol.com |
Don't go solid if you have any alternative.
The biggest contributor of engine torque-over in these cars is not engine output, but HEAVY FLYWHEELS. |

I have seen Rodney's work up close. His welding, engineering and fab work is terrific! I think its aerospace quality! The sbf SPF engine mounts along with most of his welding are a real work of art.
