Fuel Injection???
What is the advantage of a carburetion. My (very basic) understanding of engine efficiency is that the EFI engine is more efficient on induction and can produce more power/displacement. What are the disadvantages of using an injected engine? Other than that is not "traditional"

EFI is definitely superior for street use
Here's why: Consistency
EFI, properly dialed in, provides full adjustment for changing altitude/humidity/air pressure, engine conditions, etc... No fiddling around or having to stop and tweak the carb when you go up to the chalet for the weekend. I will be swapping my Barry Grant Demon carb out very soon for a Holly Pro-Jection EFI system.. custom install and custom programming with a full day's chassis dyno tuning once she's set up mechanically. |
FI is significantly more complicated and if you are using an aftermarket system you'll have to do a substantial amount of programming (fuel maps, accelerator offset, and so on).
I've got a 900cfm Holley ProJection FI on my 351W and love it ... now that I've got it tuned up. Cold engine, no problem... no hesitation or anything. Carbs on the other hand are fairly simple (if you or a buddy know what they are doing), don't require any wiring (electronics are scary to most folks), and work pretty darn well when tuned properly. |
Carbs are absolutely the most effective and simple system for Wide-Open-Throttle. However, for driving on the street, EFI is awesome.
Why not take advantage of modern technology? In all likelihood you won't run bias-ply tires, so why run a carb? |
