Kitcar mag builds a 433hp 302

Anyone see this issue? May I think. Anyone build or running such a high hp 302? I have a BDR coming with a 302 in it. Won't be that hot, I'm just wondering about potential down the road for my lil' 302 and what you experts thought about that build.

New Member, I have a fuel injected 5.0 Ford Cobra engine, anyone know if it can be converted to carberated? I'd like the look of the original type and I can't troubleshoot this if problems. It already has hard starting problems.

Sure it can be carbureted. You wont need all of the electronic, computer or most of the miscellaneus underhood fuel system. You'll need to change the fuel pump to one of lower pressure and select an intake manifold and carburetor and also change the distributor and related wiring. I don't mean to over simplify it but it can certainly be done.

I'm no expert but that motor looks like the one in my car. I enjoyed reading the build up. I'm getting started on a 331 next week. I like my AFR heads so much I'm buying a set of 185 for it.

newBDR,

Your little 302 has plenty of potential. My 331 is naturally aspirated and has a fairly low compression ratio of 10.5 to 1. The documented hp is 521 @ 7200. Yes the motor is a bit out there and it's quite a piece, but as far as "potential", if I changed the cam, upped the compression, and spun the motor to 8500, I could probably squeeze out another 100 hp. This is fact and I'd bet the cost of the motor on it.

A 400hp 302 is streetable and realistic. Build a 331 with some nice AFR heads and you'll have a real light weight screamer.

Nice. Just what I wanted to hear. Too bad you're in CA, I'd like to check out that ride.
