351w Aluminum Block

If I am looking for 400 bhp and good driveability along with minimal weight, are there any disadvantgaes to an aluminum block. Reliability? I am not looking for max power, but rather a reliable and streetable engine in a very light weight pkg.

The extra cost to me isn't worth the 90-100 lbs.....If you're not racing, you'll never know which block is under the hood.....You're probably gonna pay around $3500 at least for an aluminum block.

The aluminum blocks are better than a stock block aside from the weight. They have 4 bolt mains, blind tapped head bolt holes, taller lifter bores for roller lifters and larger bore capability. If you can afford it, it's a very good thing to have.
Yes, you will feel the 90 lbs missing. The steering will be lighter and your car will turn in better.

... and now that David Kee is producing his alloy toploaders, there's another 40lb weight saving !
