351/408 Balancing
I got hold of a 408 stroker, plain long block and tray to sort out to find the missing stuff to get the engine finished .
I dont now if the engine is balanced already and need the right flaywheel and balancer for it . The engine has the # 351 WCP 14 and the # E 9AE - 6015- AA13 on it . I have allready a Canton High Torq Starter and I want to bolt a beeft up C4 on it. Some Sugestions or help pleas  I live in Aruba and don't have the best tech support over here. Kasi |
If you don't allready have the flywheel (or flexplate in your case) you can be pretty sure the crank is not balanced.
Get the flexplate and balancer before dropping it off at the machinist. |
My problem is i don't now wich flywheel or balancer to buy , there are 28 oz and 50 oz and a lot of performance stuff out there and my problem is to sort out what i really need for the engine( i like to put some high performance stuff on it but dont now what to buy!! ) any tips where to look or a company what have a good tech support and send me the right stuff over.

Your machinest should be able to tell you which balancer you need by the crank cast date or by spinning it up.
However if I remember correctly all of the 351's were 28.2 only the 302 went to 50 in 1981. Could be wrong but I do not think so. |
There are two choices on the balance it can be the 28oz or some race engines are 'zero balance' engines. The information should be on the build card that came with the engine. HTH.

I would drop it off at the machinist and let them buy the flexplate and balancer. Alot depends on your rod and piston weight. I just dropped off my 408 to be balanced with a 28ounce flexplate and balancer. The problem I had is that the H-beam carrillo rods I bought were fairly heavy and I spent an extra 100$ adding mallory to the crank counter weights, I might not of had to going with 50 ounce.
