Help with camshaft recommendations.

These are the camshaft specifications that both Comp Cams and Cam Research gave me for the engine combo listed below. Remember the car is for the street(70 Mach 1), maybe sometimes strip, and needs enough vacuum for power disk brakes. My max street RPM will be around 6000. Both will idle around 750 - 800 RPM. I am trying to reach my goal of about 480 - 500 HP. What do you guys think?

#1 Comp Cams = Hydraulic Roller Camshaft (duration @ .050" = 232/240 ; valve lift w/ 1.6 = 565/574, Valve Overlap = 65 deg, Lobe Sep = 110 deg w/ 4 deg advance, 12" Vacuum, Operating Range = 2200 - 6200 RPM (Small Base Circle Cam)

#2 Comp Cams = Hydraulic Roller Camshaft (duration @ .050" = 224/232 ; valve lift w/ 1.6 = 555/565, Valve Overlap = 57 deg, Lobe Sep = 110 deg w/ 4 deg advance, 14 -15" Vacuum, Operating Range = 1800 - 5800 RPM (Small Base Circle Cam)

#3 Cam Research = Hydraulic Roller Camshaft (duration @ .050" = 230/235 ; valve lift w/ 1.6 = 556/556, Valve Overlap = 14 deg, Lobe Sep = 110 deg, 15" Vacuum, Operating Range = 2200 - 4500 RPM (Standard Base Circle Cam)

I'd go with cam #2 installed straight up. I think it will give you more of what you want in a street motor.

Run the cams side by side on Dyno 2000 and look at the torque curve in the 2000 - 3500 RPM range and you'll see what I mean.

Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords recently did dyno runups on these 393 motors with different combinations of cams and heads. You might want to read up on it.

Some other options for your setup might be AR 205 heads, Ede air gap intake, and 3.55 gears.

I have Cam #1 in my SPF. 508 FWHP, 544 Torque.

Great cam. Not sure if it fits your needs, etc... but it will idle at 300 (won't like it, but it WILL hold it and run) once it's hot. My car settles in at 800 easy money and makes power to 6500. Power begins to tail off at 5800, but tailing off from 508 it is still making decent power to 6500.

Fun motor. Good cam. Enjoy.

PS, AFR 185 heads on mine, RPM air gap intake, 408 cubes.
