347 Stroker 08-31-2004 07:42 PM

331/347 stroker kit/components

Well, It's about time to get my block machined. I still haven't decided on a 331 or 347, I'll probably lean towards the 331 due to longer life. I would like to get the components rather than the complete kit at this time, just due to the lump cost up front. I realize that I'll spend a little more this way, but at my current state, I'll have to go this route. I need .040 over pistons, just due to some standing water that got in the block before I had it. .030 pistons would work, but I'm more comfortable with the .040. All the kits I've seen have either .030 or .060 pistons. Who sells .040 pistons? What is a really good brand to go with, as far as pistons, crank and rods? I'll end up buying the rotating assembly from the same co., but not as a whole kit. Will all stroker cranks, both 331 and 347, have to be balanced? I keep reading that most, if not all, are for a 28 oz. dampner. Any websites or other info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Darrell:

All of your questions and many more can be answered if you will get the HP book "Ford Windsor Small Block Performance" by Isaac Martin. I was reading it today it addresses your questions directly.
Great information for anyone building a small block.

go to @dssracing.com and they can tell you what ever you wana know about 347 and 331 im going to use a 331 because they state u get beter reliability and 30 hp more at 3k rpm because of a beter seal on the rings no block flex and a proper rod to bore ratio
