wet sump terminology needed
..........

The windage tray keeps the crank from picking up excess oil while it is spinning, thus making more power. The scrapper mounts on the side rail and clears oil off the crank, thus making more power. I use a windage tray but no scrapper, and also have 5 trap doors to keep the oil in the sump. Depending on the driving you're going to do..I'd be more interested in the trap doors, then next a pan with a windage tray built in....MHO
After looking at your link, that seems like a good pan. |
What Jack said. Canton has a good rep as well. Call Canton, tell them what you are doing and let them recommend a pan. Take measurements to make sure you will not have clearence issues. Then buy it off EBAY!
I have a pan from Armondo and like it very much. Basically identical to the Aviad pans but either will cost more than $300. Rick |

Rob;
The Canton pan is a very good pan. I went with Armando's pan because I have 4-bolt mains and Canton wanted $500+ and 5-6 months (special order) for their -580SV and Armando got it to me in less than a month for a little more than $400. I'm having pickup tube fitment problems, but that has more to do with the oil pump than the pan. Bill Stradtner |
You want the Canton 15-610S road racing pan with windage tray & main cap bolts for a Cobra. A Cobra is not a Mustang (much less an LTD).
Cobras accelerate, stop, and corner like roller coasters. Bearings run on oil, not air. Uncover the oil pickup with a stock pan and bye bye engine. |
