351 W Or 351m
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND THE NUMBER ON MY ENGINE SO I CAN IDENTIFY WEATHER ITS A WINDSOR OR MODIFIED?
|
You should be able to find the block ID on the passengers side of the block, under the starter.
A 351W, looks like a tall 302. The timing cover is cast pot metal or aluminum, and is bolted to the front of the engine. The heads sit about an inch above the water pump inlet (wheras the 302 heads sit even with the water pump inlet). A 351M looks like a tall Cleveland. (To me it even looks more like an Oldsmobile motor) The timing cover is part of the block casting, and is covered with a stamped steel plate. And there is little aftermarket parts for the "M". |
"M" is for marine, not modified........
|
M = Modified
A real quick way is the Windsor has five valve cover bolts and the Cleveland has eight. Plus the intake on a cleveland is dry and the windsor is not. RIck |
351-400 M , is a seldom used engine in cobras, I would be surprised if you had one in your car, unless it's a LTD. But if you are looking for an engine for a cobra, and you have come across a 351M, keep looking.....
