Motor: what size???
 
Hi every one,

I'm just starting my project and I don't know what motor size I should install in my Cobra. Is a 302 enough? I noticed that a lot of people used 351's or bigger blocks.

What are the pros and cons according to your experiences.

The pros and cons of big blocks vs small blocks has been discussed at great length on this forum. If you use the search capability from the toolbar on the top, you can benefit from the previous discussions.

Anyway, I'll summarize what I've learned. Some people believe one way. Some believe the other. If you've never driven one of these cars, either engine will astound you with its capability to accelerate. Having a big block vs. a small block is like having 6 feet of insulation in your attic vs. 5 feet. Either is 'way more than plenty.

Some will argue that: small blocks are cheaper to build and run, easier to keep cool in traffic, make a car handle better due to better weght distribution, impose less stress on suspension components, etc. Some will dispute these claims.

Some will argue that: big blocks sound more authentic, look more authentic, will out-drag a small block due to monstrous torque, etc. Some will dispute these claims.

Basically---it's up to you.

Can you hear the can of worms opening? Big block vs small block. Ford vs anything else. Solid or hydraulic. Roller or not. Carb vs fuelie. Alum vs iron. Windsor? Dart? Well, it won't come out of Gardena any more. :D :rolleyes:

Take the middle road, a 351. Let your checkbook be your guide.
