Where to find a rebuilt 302 (on a budget)? Indy Mustang?

Hi everyone. I am new on the forum, I have just brought my Cob which i built myself over to New York from the UK. I had to leave the engine (and transmission) behind as US customs would not let it in as it would not pass emissions.

So now i am looking for a rebuilt 302 with a T-5. I know this combination will fit my chassis which has a narrow tunnel. I was going to buy from Indy Mustang who gets good feedback on ebay, but i saw on this forum that someone had a bad experience with him.

I don't want to spend more than around $3000 so the Engine factory and others look a bit expensive.

Has nayone else had experiiinec with Indy Mustang? Any other suggestions for where to find a good rebuilt 302?

Thanks all!

Go to your local machine shop tell them what you want and they'll have it or know someone that does. 1987 through 1993 mustang gt's all had forged pistons and are tough motors. Find one and have it rebuilt with better heads and cam and intake. they made about a billion 302's

UK, check one of the other posts, someone in New jersey is giving away a 302.

You can get a brand new ford crate engine. Comes as a long block so you will have to find an intake manifold and carb. Part # M-6007-F50. Ford Motorsports suggested MSRP is $2,895. You can probably get it for 2600 from a distributor. 225 HP. The bare bones 351W crates with 240 HO or 250 HP are even less. Another good place to shop is Central Coast Mustang.

If you know your stuff, and what to look for, pick up a copy of your local Want Ad newsletter at any convenience store. There will be sections under automotive engines & transmissions (stock), and high performance and racing. This is all private stuff, but it's worth a look. This is how we shopped for parts before the internet was invented.

Johnny,

Dean lampe has a like new (less than 3000 miles) 351 all set up and ready to drop in your car and I think he also has a T-5 to go with it. I am guessing you can get the whole package for less than $2k. Send him an email and I am sure he will call you.

I suggest an 88-98 lincoln or ford hipo unit out of a low mileage total. Roller cam forged pistons... Most can be had for well under $1,000 and some much less complete.

Clois I have contacted Dean and we are talking by email. Thanks for the 'heads up'

John,
If you're still thinking about Indy mustang, PLEASE keep looking. I have seen three of his motors and none of them made it past 25 miles!

Indy Mustang - RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!

No, I take that back - RUN AWAY SCREAMING!

There are lots of reputable places to buy a good 302. Southern Automotive, Levy Racing, CHP, Engine Factory, and Ford Racing to name a few. Fprd Racing motors even have a warrenty now.

I trade around with 60's to middle 70's ford cars. I saw your note. There is a neighbor here in Spartanburg, South Carolina that has 1984 302 with a 5 speed together that he wants to sell for $1000. Everything is supposed to be in good running order when pulled. If interested E-mail me at roberick@bellsouth.net and I will give you his phone number so you can verify everthing with him.

302 Search

Hey;
I found a killer 347 stroker on ebay, installed it and my 65 drives brand new.:o

UKjohnnycobra 01-03-2005 03:09 PM

So what is it about Indymustang? On ebay he claims all new parts, complete rebuild, and seems to have a good seller feedback. I guess thats the problem with rebuilt engines: you don't know what is actually the quality of the work until you run them.
