Engine Timing
On my 418W I am running 22 initial with a total of 36 degrees! The engine seems to like that the best!
10:1 compression @ .50 / .512 Lift |
On my stroker (392), I run about 20 initial, 32 max.... all in by 3000. No vacumn advance.
C/R = 9.7:1 Cam dura= 232 in, 240 ex. @.05 lift. Lift= .566in, .576 ex. PG Demon Carb I'm very happy with everything this way. |
I have a cleveland, but have the same specs as Terry does. My CAM has a bit more lift.
Idles about 1100. |
When running 20 deg initial, are you having starter, kickback problems when starting hot? engine runs and spools up quickly at 20 or 22 deg but stalls the starter when hot. It won't turn over relaibly hot at anything over 17 deg. Ideas?

I haven't had a problem, however, I understand that the MSD 6AL or something like that, retards the timing on start up for just such things.
You might want to look into that. I know Rick Dorman has just put on on his car and says it was a good upgrade. I am considering it. |
