Max Nos
i have a block making 340hp at the flywheel from central coast mustangs with GT40P heads (milled .030) would my block be fine if i were to add a 200hp shot of nitrous or would I need to get a different setup? If 200 shot is too much what's a good decent number i could shoot with nitrous for that engine?

Sure. Question is, for how long.
The main issue is knock (detonation) control. Are you able to run race gas ? what is the compression ? Are you willing to put in an ignition box that will retard the timing when on the squeeze? Are you running stock rods and crank, or something much stronger ? If you were to design an engine around this in the first place, you would want moderate compression (10:1), a forged crank, forged I beam rods and forged pistons. You would want to be able to have control of the maximum ignition advance when the bottle is in use. You would also probably want to select a cam with nitrous in mind (Crane offers these among others). At the very least, you want a good rev limiter :) |
I'm running a motor with 10:5:1 compression and have forged pistons with the crank. It includes an Xcam also GT40P heads with 1.6 rockers on top of them.
What ignition system should I use to retard the timing at the squeeze of the button? |
MSD makes a box specifficly for this.

what's the name of the specific msd box that is made for this nos setup?
|
The MSD "Digital 6" for one offers a single stage retard setting for use with nitrous, as do many of their digital series ignitions.
This is one of the simpler setups which should be sufficient for what your looking to do. More advanced systema offer several stages of retarding, as well as means to verify that the nitrous has actually shut off and is used up before the ignition returns the advance. http://www.msdignition.com/ignition_18_6520.htm |
thanks for the info, i'll be sure to get that ignition system... now can someone suggest a colder spark plug for me?
